The following question was given to students at St. Patrick's Cathedral School before Mother's Day 2006. Students were asked not to give their names. What follows is a sampling of the responses with no attempt to correct spelling and/or grammar. Why do you think we do more for "our mothers" On Mother's Day than we do for "our fathers" on Father's Day?

Our mothers's are the people who made us, and always, take care of us, why our fathers work.

Some kids don't have mothers they just have fathers. So fathers are just as special as mothers.

I think we think more for our mothers on Mother's Day, because we feel as it is first instinct, to feel more for the person who gave birth to us. For Father's Day, we think of fathers not as people who always comfort us, but as people who keep our family together and give us food, clothing, and water (not saying mom's don't do so either). We love our parents both, but in a different way.

That isn't true. I do just as much for my father as I do for my mom. I love my dad and don't do more for my mom

I think we do more for "our mothers" because we spend more time with our mothers, who help us, care for us, and comfort us.

Personally I do the same amount for both

I think we do more for Mothers day because most of the time the mother is at home taking care of the kids while the dad is at work. Also alot of parents are divorced and most kids would live with the mother than the father.

We do more for our mothers because they are more weepy than fathers are. But all fathers care about is just being with there family.

I do not feel that I do more for my mother on Mother's Day than I do for my Father on Father's Day. I feel I do the same thing for my Father and Mother on their special day and show how much I appreciate what they do for me!

For me I think ... well it is hard for me to do stuff for him. But I think it is all treated fair.

We give our mothers bed rest and time off, and places to relax because t hats what they like more. So it looks like were giving more to the mom. See we are actually giving more to the mom because thats what they want. Wee don't for the dad because thats not what he wants, he wants to hike or watch t.v.
