Saint Patrick's Cathedral Prayer Line

The Cathedral Prayer Line has been in operation for six years. In that time, thousands of requests have been submitted and prayed for. We do not attribute any miracles to our prayers, but we are certain that they made a difference along with the prayers of the families making the requests.

It is a wonderful and joyful ministry to be a part of. Of course, we are often sharing deep sadness and concern, but we know it helps the people who call to have a listening ear and a promise of prayer.

Over the years we have lost some of our pray-ers. Some have moved, some have become ill and no longer able to make calls and a few have gone home to their heavenly reward where we know they continue to pray for all in need. We need reinforcements. The work is not hard and does not take a great deal of time.

Very simply, this is how the prayer line works. There are three facilitators who receive most of the calls (their names and phone numbers are listed on the bulletin board page). Each facilitator has two or three teams to whom she calls the intention(s). Each team member then calls the name beneath hers on the list. She/he may give the message in person or leave it on an answering machine. If a member receives a request for prayer, she/he calls the facilitator, gives it to her and then calls the person she/he regularly calls.

We are going to make a change which will make the ministry even easier. We will call our all requests received before 3:00 p.m. between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. that day. Calls received after that time will be called out the next day, unless it is an emergency.

If you would like to be a part of this very special and blessed ministry, please call one of the facilitators this week. We will prepare a new list, all the instructions and a prayer you might use. There is no special rule for prayer. If you say the rosary, you might add the people on the prayer line to your intentions, or a Memorare to the Blessed Mother, or a Novena, or just your spontaneous prayers to God, our Blessed Mother or a Saint.

If you have any questions, please call one of the facilitators. We will do our best to answer your requests for information.
